The next International Swan Census is due to take place in January 2020. The census is focused on Whooper and Bewick's Swans.
Overall, the census is organised by the Wetlands International / IUCN SSC Swan Specialist Group, whilst WWT coordinates the British, Irish and Icelandic surveys. The census, however, is organised in the Republic of Ireland by the I-WeBS office at BirdWatch Ireland, the Irish Whooper Swan Study Group in Northern Ireland, by WWT in Britain and WWT's colleagues in Iceland manage the survey there.
The scheduled census dates in Britain and Ireland are 11/12 January 2020 which coincide with WeBS core counts and any Whooper's (or for the very lucky Bewick's!) will hopefully make it onto the records but all other sightings that month would be much appreciated - particularly of swans on agricultural land. Kane Brides is the UK co-ordinator at the WWT, Slimbridge.
