RE: Binocular and telescope care

Hi Richard .       Thanks so much for your reply. Very helpful, I must admit it did cross my mind the damage it may cause. I will keep my optics in the house overnight. Thanks again

That could potentially be very bad for your equipment paulderrig, I've already had to take steps at home to prevent my own stuff from getting damaged by lens mold dispite taking a few precautions already myself and as and result, I've lost one item to lens mold (but hasn't been used for over a year) but not seriously to throw away thankfully - because that's all that can be done once equipment is damaged as it cannot be repaired! There are a few elements you must avoid:

1. DARKNESS
2. DAMPNESS
3. COOL CONDITIONS

These are all elements mold growth loves and this will damage the lens let alone the coating.

The best thing to do is to keep your equipment warm indoors with you and avoid leaving them in the car. This can be a pain as you will need to remember to take them with you at all times but it isn't worth loosing your equipment to mold. One thing that will help is silicon bags, but these won't help much in extream conditions and will need to be dried out regularly. One thing I'm doing is using moisture absorbers designed to prevent mold and damp in cupboards and draws.

I hope this information helps.

Hi any ideas in keeping my binoculars and scope free from condensation when I keep them in my car overnight. As I often go birdwatching after work I leave in the car. I know I could wrap them up in a duvet, didnt know if there are any products out there. Thanks
