Squirrels (aka tree rats)

A quick search on youtube for "funniest squirrel on greased pole" will (aside from giving you a few laughs at the search term and the video itself) also give you a few ideas on bird feeder protection!!!

5 in my Flixton garden a few days ago. A site record, as they say.

Sorry to jump your thread Pete, but I think that people are going to need things like this more than ever as my experience of this Autumn so far is that they have reached plague proportions with multiple sightings common. Anyone else seeing this explosion (even where there were quite a lot to begin with, like Romiley and surrounds)?

I think i've found a way to prevent squirrels getting at my bird feeders(so far anyway).I've been using this method for several months now and not had a single incident of the tree rats getting to the feeders.I've tied strong string to the feeders and made a hole in the centre of a bucket lid and threaded string thru this hole so it touches top of feeder.I've also tied some old washing line from my shed to an adjacent tree and I hang feeders from the washing line.It doesn't look "pretty" but it works and also the birds don't mind it at all.I also put a bucket lid with a hole in centre again at each end of the washing line as a further deterent.I've posted a picture to give an idea of what it looks like.
