I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a small bookshop at the back of the hotel just up the lane from the Colonsay ferry pier. I picked up a book there on the Birds of Colonsay & Oransay. I've also got a nice book "Wild Island" by the artist Jane Smith about Oransay.
For the Choughs, make sure you go up to Kiloran Bay at the north of the island.
Yeah cheers Steve, I've read about the Choughs, a bird I've never seen before so fingers crossed. Hopefully we'll be able to get onto Oronsay, weather's looking very good. Apparently a pair of Golden Eagle are also the island. Good time of the year for seabirds, looking forward to it. Cheers for you reply!
Have had numerous day trips to Colonsay but, because of the tides, only ever made it to Oransay for 10 minutes before dashing back and getting wet feet!
Oronsay is much better for Corncrakes apparently, but has Britain's most northerly Chough colony.
Long shot but im visiting the Isles of Colonsay for 2 days next Friday and Oronsay on Sunday, anybody ever been birding on these two islands? I know Colonsay is superb for Corncrakes.
