Hi Nigel, did you manage any images of this one? I might be able to tell you which one it is, and it will help with my record submission for Ian.

Didn't stop long at Smithfield so came to Redgate.
- 20+ adult Great Black-babies Gulls
- 7 Argentatus Herring Gulls

Strong winds have started and are keeping the Gulls active now as they are literally being blown down the roof and they lose their balance and just take off.

I lost it whilst I was there Rob unfortunately. There's no telling what birds will do especially Gulls, sometimes they remain in the exact same spot for lengthy periods and other times they are gone in an instant. I'm trying to keep a close eye on here and Smithfield at the minute, Redgate is on a direct route between my depot and the city centre where I am most days and Smithfield I have to go to anyway to get stock for the depot so it's fairly easy to monitor the sites a few times a week at least.
If anything of interest turns up then I will post it as soon as I can.
Cheers mate

In the last 30 minutes or so...

- 1 juvenile Iceland Gull (2nd white-winger of the week)
- 7 adult Great Black-backed Gulls
- 8 Ring-necked Parakeets over BCA

The Iceland Gull landed on the 384 building but was up flying again within seconds, I got good views as it flew over the wagon twice but it was lost to view over the main yard.

Weds 10th Jan.
Plenty of large Gulls to work through made for a cracking tacho break!

- A white-winger in the form of an adult Iceland Gull flying around over Redgate Lane this afternoon approx 2.45pm. Having got it in my bins I was happy, I grabbed my camera for a record shot but I was just too slow. I'm assuming it's the same bird as Simon Ghilks and Terry Sykes had on Friday and Sunday respectively at Audenshaw, and now it's found Redgate let's hope it turns up again.

Also of note...
- 31 minimum Great Black-backed Gulls (27 adults)
- 12 Argentatus Herring Gull
- 10 Argenteus Herring Gulls
- 30+ Black-headed Gulls
- 2 Common Gulls
- lots of other juvenile and immature birds present too

Weds 3rd Jan, mid afternoon.

Not a single large Gull around Redgate or the 384 building, they were all on the new BCA building roof. There was roughly 50-60 large Gulls, but it was overcast and on and off spats of rain so the only ones I really noted were the Great Black-backed's of which I saw 14 adults.

Tuesday 2nd Jan early afternoon

- Great Black-backed Gulls 15 ad / 3 1st w
- Argentatus Herring Gulls 12
- Yellow-legged Gull 2 adults

...one was the individual that's been hanging around recently, true to form it didn't stay long on the 384 building and flew off. Why it just turns up for a brief moment and where it goes I don't know. Also one of the Smithfield 2 turned up just as I was at the end of my break, briefly landed on the 384 building but then seemed to go down into the yard and I could hear it calling from there, I know that call anywhere, a loud deeper toned and slightly slower bellow than the Herring and Lesser Black-backed's.
A good day for Gulls today. smile

Saturday 30th Dec... lunchtime.

Most of the large Gulls were on the British Car Auctions (BCA) new building.

- 1 Yellow-legged Gull. Looked really familiar and eventually the penny dropped, I'm almost certain it's the lone bird from Smithfield Market that I've not seen since Wednesday.
- 15 Great Black-backed Gulls (adults)
- 6 Argentatus Herring Gulls

Friday 29th Dec, mid afternoon

Probably in excess of 250 Gulls this afternoon
- c200+ Black-headed Gulls
- No sign of the Yellow-legged Gull
- 8 adult Great Black-backed Gulls
- 6 Argentatus Herring Gulls

And a funny thing happened, a particular HGV turned up and sounded its horn at the main gate, the 384 roof emptied and there was a mass of Gulls flying around near that wagon. It was waiting for a few minutes and the Gulls had settled down. It sounded its horn again and pandamonium broke loose again with the Gulls. Funny really as other horns sound when vehicles turn up and others already on site but they don't usually move. A bit of Pavlov's Dogs stimulus??

Image shows the adult Yellow-legged Gull (taken Wednesday morning) that still visits occasionally and sometimes only briefly.

Late post for Weds 20th Dec.

Late afternoon...not surprised to see the same Yellow-legged Gull again this afternoon at Redgate.
It's probably been in the area all day seeing as though it was on Chapman Street this morning just down the road.

Also...
- 4 adult Great Black-backed Gulls
- at least 5 Argentatus Herring Gulls

All the Gulls were on the 384 building as I arrived 10 minutes ago but they've literally all just disappeared together off to roost.

Bill pattern and the dull leg colour look good for the individual that's been here on and off last couple of weeks.

- 6 Argentatus Herring Gulls

Probably ringed in the NW, contact lee.barber@bto.org

Just for the record if anybody wanted to know, I've just had an email back from Lee Barber.

-Confirmed as an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull.
-First ringed in May 2017 at Barrow-in-Furness docks.
-97 miles away / 192 days ago
-This bird is of particular interest as it was fitted with a GPS tag that was attached to a harness designed to drop off eventually, this sighting could signify a 'drop off' event.
Cheers

It's the same bird as the other day and after analysing the images I'm almost 100% certain it's the same bird that was here 22nd Feb and then 28th Feb. Images are on Bits Bobs Odds Sods of this Gull for those 2 earlier dates. I'm sure it's the same Gull.
