True Sid, and having worked for the info services it is usually a 'reported' or 'possible' too, so if that comes up then twitchers should hold their horses until confirmed, or in these recent cases corrected!
............not to mention the reported possible Yellow breasted Bunting at Spurn yesterday that was re-identified from photos as a Corn Bunting. However I suppose that the information services can only put out the news they are given and in this case the report was corrected fairly quickly and in sufficient time to stop folk dashing over there.
The latest piece of duff gen on Birdguides takes the biscuit - a White Stork 'reidentified from photos as a Grey Heron'. Hot on the heels of the 'Greenish Warbler' that was in fact a Chiffchaff also 'identified from photos'. Whilst the new British Birds ID photo guide is great it's otherwise all gone wrong....
