I agree that most species can be seen away from the hide, but recently the hide has been the focal point for school visits to educate the next generation of ornithologists who hopefully will then help protect these special places for there children and grandchildren.
The hide was burned down last night (3rd) and had suffered a degree of vandalism previously to this.
To be fair though, it makes little difference at all for anyone visiting the site as the vast majority of birds (all of them?) are best seen away from hide!
