The odd thing is though, when I lived in St Helens I had a Warrington postcode, but my postal address was not Warrington or Cheshire, it was St Helens, Merseyside. So there would appear to be no reason why I can't have a Warrington postcode here yet still have a Lowton, Wigan, Greater Manchester postal address. Probably historic reasons I guess
Your part of Wigan Borough, as I'm sure you will have noticed when you moved there, has a Warrington postcode, so as others have alluded to, the postal address (as recognised by the Post Office and as stored on the National Land and Property Gazetteer used and maintained by local authorities) is Warrington, Cheshire, despite the fact that you live in Greater Manchester (and the County Palatine of Lancashire).

Please submit your records to me Colin as ornithologically you come under Greater Manchester. Officially you come under that county too but for administration reasons many organisations keep to the old postal county areas, as do many other individuals who deny the existence of the county for whatever reason
I thought I knew but apparently not! I live near Lowton High school not far from Pennington Flash. When I drive down Winwick Lane towards Lowton (i.e. south of the East Lancs) I pass a sign which says "Welcome to Wigan, Lowton". I pay my council tax to Wigan Council.
However, my council tax bill (from Wigan Council!) says I live in nnnnnnnnnnn, Lowton, Warrington, Cheshire. When I look at the maps, Cheshire seems to stop at the East Lancs. So can anybody tell me which county I live in? It's relevant because obviously I want to know who I should submit records to. For example, a week ago a hobby flew over my garden. For a while I was half hoping I might see the Pennington Sabine's gull fly over (lots of other birds fly over on their way to and from the flash). Any ideas???
