For a generation, Bill Oddie was one of the anarchic trio of The Goodies, one of the most popular comedy shows of the 1970s, before going on to more than 30 years as one of the most recognisable faces in wildlife broadcasting.
Although an interest in the natural world remained throughout his time as a comedy performer and prolific writer, Bill first came to a wider nature-loving audience during the 1990s, as the face of the pioneering early days of live wildlife television, which has now developed into the hugely popular BBC shows of Springwatch and Autumnwatch.
As well as commentating on the antics of badgers, blue tits and rutting red deer on live TV, Bill also took on several successful solo TV series, sharing his passions for birds and other wildlife in travels across the UK and around the globe.
Bill has continued with guest appearances on several TV comedy shows and continues to write a regular column in BBC Wildlife magazine, along with promoting his own range of garden wildlife products.
He published an acclaimed and frank autobiography in 2009 One flew into the cuckoos egg, chronicling both his years behind the binoculars and the challenges of mental illness.
Bill will be talking at The Pavilion, Chester Racecourse on Thursday 5 March 2015. Tickets are £16.50 (all inclusive), available from the Cheshire Wildlife Trust website or by calling 01948 820728. Proceeds will go to the Wildlife Trusts work across Cheshire.
