RE: Hide Clamp

Alex, if you want to give us a ring at Focalpoint and tell us the model of your tripod we will hopefully be able to advise you as to which clamp would accomodate your centre colums, or whether a stand alone hide clamp would be a better bet (some centre columns cannot be accomodated by any hide clamp available). Call on 01925 730399 Mon-Sat 10am-4pm. We sell plently of hide clamps so hopefully would be able to help you out smile

p.s. We also sponsor this Forum so help Ian to keep up the good work for all the birders in Manchester & beyond biggrin

Opticron do a BC2 hide clamp which uses the centre column of your tripod. If you can completely remove the centre column and it is within the size range (supplied with 3 sleeves) it's not a bad piece of kit. They are available for £25 ish. The good thing is that you don't need to take your scope off your tripod and but a bracket to fit your scope/hide clamp combo.

You need to be careful with this and check (as Mark says) that it will fit your centre column - I was going to buy one of the Opticron clamps but it wouldn't take my Manfrotto centre column. Not sure if Manfrottos are bigger than average.

I have had a Velbon delta v hide clamp for 4 years ,and has wprked perfectly during that time, cost about £40,but I think they are all dependant on the tripod you use as they don't all fit each other, you need one that fits the centre column of your tripod.
cheers John
