More info received on the Swans here; The adult pair raised 6 Cygnets to a fair size when 4 of the Cygnets succumbed. The rest of the family appears OK Also quite a few Canada Geese died. Info thanks to Ian Marshall who's daughter lives by the lodge. Ian also says that birds are being fed some awful food at the east end of the lodge ...mouldy bread and other crap.

I keep checking for news about the birds found dead at Boggart Hole Clough. Has anyone found out yet whether it was the suspected Avian Botulism? Mum grew up around that area and used to spend time there, she keeps asking but I can't find any info.
Hi Steve Christmas, Re your message...Yes the article stated that Cygnets were among those dead at Doffcocker. With regard the Swan at Rumworth, it was on the far side to me so I did not see rings. Cheers Keith

An article in today's Bolton News, by Vickie Scullard, discusses the recent spate of bird deaths at the Lodge. It quotes the latest thoughts, from the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA), that it is probably caused by avian botulism. This is the first I know of the problem at Doffcocker; although recently I have had a dead Swan, Goose and Lapwing at Rumworth (about 2 miles away.) The article can be read online at Bolton News.
