I'm confused I've seen Jays many times these didn't have the distinctive pattern on their back.. Just read up on Jay,s it would seem this is there type of behaviour.. i quote..

The Jay is a colourful crow that is about the same size as a Jackdaw.
They are mostly a pinkish brown, the underparts being slightly paler. The head has a black and white flecked crown, black moustache and white throat. The white rump contrasts starkly with the black tail. The iris of the eye is a pale blue, the bill is black and the legs are pink-brown. The wings are mostly black with white patches but also have striking blue patches, but close to these wing patches are actually bands of graduated shades of blue:

I have spotted 4 unusual birds in the Didsbury Withington area for the last 2 weeks. They don't hang around for long so my description may be a bit blurred. They are roughly the size of a magpie without the long tail. Colour, light brown with small (black and white stripes ??) around small beaks. Possible markings on wings They make a loud screaming noise like a parrot and seem to be in an agitated state. This morning 4 of them were in a tree by my house in Withington and were physically fighting with each other until 2 magpies attacked them. They are not green parakeets that live in Didsbury. I have searched the European book of birds without a match.... Can you help ?? Roy 07916 253231
