On Saturday 15th February, during Go Green Week 2014, the Manchester Ship Canal World Heritage Group presents... LOVE BIRDS, an event to encourage people to enjoy the wildlife of our local mosslands, and in particular, the birds
The concept is see what you can see, find out for yourself the wonderful birds of the Salford and Wigan Mosses - Chat, Barton, Irlam, Cadishead, Astley and Little Woolden Mosses
Participants are asked to record what they can, and to put photos, lists and stories online @ the Salford Online facebook group & the official event site, & also email them to: salforddocklands@yahoo.com
Recent sightings on the Mosses have included Great Grey Shrike, Merlin, Tawny Owl, Green Sandpiper, Woodcock & Wigeon, while sightings over the years have included species as rare as Bufflehead, Flamingo, Lesser Kestrel, Bean Goose, Red-footed Falcon, Desert Wheatear and Great White Egret so anything is possible!
There is public access to most of the area via Barton Moss Road, Cutnook Lane, Fiddlers Lane, Roscoe Road, Astley Road & New Moss Road
Please contact Lancashire Wildlife Trust for permits to the Little Woolden Moss Nature Reserve
The Manchester Ship Canal World Heritage Group would like to wish all participants a wonderful days birding on Salford & Wigans rare, beautiful and endangered mosslands
