I'm used to seeing thrushes and Woodpigeons feasting on the Rowan berries in my garden each autumn, but seeing a Robin devouring them too is a first for me.
I know they relish softer fruits like Elder and Blackberries, as do Blackcaps etc, but Rowan berries always seemed too chunky a morsel for the small beak of a Robin.
My little garden chum, pretty sure it's a bird that fledged from a brood raised this year in my ivy, gobbles Rowan berries off the lawn like a greedy kid eating Smarties, I'm amazed.
Normally at this time of year very few berries remain, they've usually gone long before any Redwings arrive, but this year the tree is still heavy with them and is still in full leaf.
Of the the 4 trees in or around my garden only 2 have lost most of their leaves, and even then are still they're still laden with berries.
If these trees keep most of their berries for another month, and we get another Waxwing invasion, I'll get a new garden tick. Fingers crossed.
