The bird is in fact a rather smart looking juvenile Sparrowhawk and certainly from photos appears to be in good plumage.

If its being harrassed it will be under stress if possible might be worth putting in a box and keeping warm cold is bad for shock.

But to be honest I dont know so just going off watching wildlife SOS on channel 4

My cousin lives on the Dane Bank Estate at Denton. This morning she spotted a Kestrel in her garden and it's still there, It's moving about but not flying. there appear to be a group of Magpies harassing it and it's taken refuge in a Holly bush in her garden. Can anybody advise me and in turn her, who she can contact for help to rescue the bird. If anybody wants to phone me, my number is 07958 409 258.

Thanks for the advice Pete.

I contacted the address you gave me and they put me in touch with a lady who rescue's birds in the Tameside area. I sent her a couple of photo's and she told me it's a Sparrowhawk and not a Kestrel. She said it seems to be okay, possibly it had recently eaten and was resting until it's food digests.

I would put photo's on here but I don't know how to do it.

John.
