A rather bizarre sighting of a Grey Squirrel near the bus station this morning, made even stranger due to the fact that the council chopped all the nearest trees down a couple of months back.
Correction to the previous post regarding Ashton Moss.
Had another look at the Burnet moths on the mound this morning, thanks to David Walsh for pointing out the distribution of Burnet moths would mean that these would more likely be Five-Spot rather than Six-Spot. Indeed on looking closely at about 30 individual moths only 2 appeared to be Six Spot so it is highly likely that the vast majority of the many hundreds of moths still present, although very worn now, would be Five-Spot Burnet.
Many hundreds of Six-Spot Burnet, probably into the 1000s over the whole area. c10 Meadow Brown 1 Painted Lady All seen on the mound. This is generally an incredible place for butterflies and moths. Probably too early in the day for the butterflies today.
