RE: Wanted: Old binoculars, spotting scopes and bird ID books

Just to let you know that some members of the Leigh Ornithological Society and our Young Birders' Club Team will be manning a stall in the marquee at the 'Wildlife and Heritage Fair' at Pennington Flash this Sunday (18th). If you have any unwanted scopes, binoculars, ID books or even birding mags that you don't want and would like to donate to the Club, they can be dropped off with me or any other LOS member on the stall. You can also come and ask us about LOS membership or anything else we do - our programme of fieldtrips and indoor meetings is now available on our website - www.leighos.org.uk

Cheers, Martyn

Hi Everyone

Leigh Ornithological Society has set up a Young Birders' Club (LOSYBC) with the aim of getting young people involved in observing birds, wildlife and nature in general. As a registered charity we depend mainly on the membership subscriptions and sponsored events to raise funds for our activities, as well as the goodwill and time of the members. The LOSYBC is now becoming quite well established in our local area, and so we are now looking to procure some binoculars, scopes and ID books so that we may better equip the youngsters on our expanding range of fieldtrips. So far we have managed by members lending out their own equipment but quite apart from the lack of pairs of binoculars etc, there are obviously other issues with this solution.

So now we are looking to see if we can obtain any unwanted items of the previously mentioned equipment from people who have no further use for them for whatever reason and who are willing to donate them to what we believe is a good cause. We're willing to collect anything in this line no matter what condition it is in, although we might not be able to use everything we get. We can either arrange to meet you somewhere or call in at your house for collection if it is in the GM or nearby area.

You can see some examples of what we've been doing with local schools over the last year by visiting our LOSYBC website (losybc.blogspot.com) or more generally the LOS website (www.leighos.org.uk) and you can PM here pr email me at leighos.webmaster@gmail.com if you can offer any items of the said equipment.

I'm sure the generosity of the Manchester Birders will help us out in this matter.

Cheers, Martyn
