5 Common Swifts above my Bredbury abode yesterday evening, finally arrived for the summer.

There will be more arriving in the following days. I expect at least 1 pair to nest in next door's roof as they do every year.

Cheers,

Steve.

There was a large movement of Redwings yesterday morning over Bredbury.
They passed over in large groups over a period of around an hour between 9am - 10am, coming from a North Easterly direction.

Steve.

A Harris Hawk has just been trying to shelter in a fir tree in my garden whilst being mobbed by the local Magpies and crow's. It eventually flew off towards Woodley.

All the above in song

This area still has nice mature hedgerows with scattered hawthorns and clumps of brambles in the fields, a magnet for warblers. Not out today at the optimum time of day but nevertheless the following were singing.

Whitethroat 8
Blackcap 5
Chiffchaff 6
(In previous years I have also seen Lesser Whitethroat and Grasshopper/Sedge/Garden Warbler, whilst Mr Adderley once found a Tree Pipit so always worth a look)

Swift 8
Swallow 5
House Martin 2 (Attending one of the 2 nests remaining under eaves at the Arden Arms)

Cheers John

In addition to the 4 Waxwing on Ashton Road were 3 Fieldfare,  10 Redwing, Sparrowhawk and predumed Chiffchaff although it followed the large Goldfinch flock before I could get absolute ID confirmed.
