I don't bother going up there in summer since they extended the golf course ..... it killed the area stone dead.

The Hollies on the lane are OK for winter thrushes and the Rose hips for Greenfinch.

I'll ask John Clayton about the Starling for you if I see him knocking about.

Roger.

Have you ever seen the albino Starling up on Clayton's farm? It used to be in the first field as you enter Range Road. Sadly I've not seen it for a while.

That's good to hear.

I live near the Golf Club and there is usually a pair knocking about in the winter.

Sorry! I've just listened to You tube and yes it does sound like it was a female tawny! Thanks again!

Thanks for your reply!

It was close to Dukinfield golf club. Listening to the call it sounded more like a Long-eared owl but I don't know if they live in the area.

Hello I'm trying to learn as much as I can about birds but I'm still a novice. Tonight about half an hour ago I was out walking and saw an owl. It was larger than a tawny owl. It was screeching really loudly. I've been listening to different owl sounds on the RSPB website and none of them sound anything like the owl I heard. Has anyone any suggestions on what it could have been. It was stood on top of a telegraph pole in Dukinfield. Other people were out looking at it because it was so loud!

Hiya Vicky ... it would have been a female Tawny Owl ... she's a lot bigger than the male.
You don't say whereabouts in Dukinfield she was but there was a male calling at the bottom of Sandy Lane at 02-00 hrs Tuesday morning. Hope this helps.
Roger.
