30.7.09 - Semipalmated Sandpiper on my patch when I lived on Shetland. Although I must confess I did id it as a Little Stint, it was retrospectively id'd later.
Whoah there all! I seem to have popped the ringpull on a can of worms here. I was only trying to encourage Graham to get out there and not wait for some imagined blissful combination of great birds in the warm sunshine! Yes agreed all kinds of birds to be found: the Western Bonelli's Warbler at Arnfield Res, invisible Quail on the mosses taunting the hopeful birder for hours on end, Black Redstarts in the city centre and of course time to brush up on those lovely eclipse ducks (soon to make an appearance in a Mystery Bird competition near you). So let's have a round up of the best things you've turned up on a lazy July day. I'll start with the cracking Black-necked Grebe I found at Chorlton Water Park while out for a bike ride.
Oh and yes I am hoping to get some good butterflies too. If summer ever comes...
