One thing that has always impressed me since I set up this forum is its potential power in rousing support for important county issues. So it is that I ask for your support in what is potentially one of the most important conservation projects the county has seen for many a year.

Last week I met with Thom Dallimore and other officers of the Lancashire Wildlife Trust over their vision for the 272 acre Little Woolden Moss. Birders who know the area will be fully aware that this huge site is currently mainly just bare, milled peat but the LWT now have the possibility to purchase the site.

Of course, any such project relies on funding and this is where we, as birders, can assist in their plight. Having seen first hand LWT's vision, I can only say that I was hugely impressed and excited about what the future could hold for this site and back the project completely, but it will only be possible if funding is secured. Were it not, then we will loose the opportunity for a deeply impressive and important site for wildlife in our county and in the UK as a whole such would be its potential importance.

As always I am more than happy to speak to any birders with questions about the project or those requiring further information or clarification but until then it is important that we back it with our support via the survey link and supporting letters which can be found on the 'County Notice Board' page of the Manchester Birding website. The deadline for the LWT application is 26th August 2011, so please don't delay.

If you never visit the actual Manchester Birding website usually then please do this once and take the few minutes it will take to back this project, it really is an opportunity we should not miss out on.
