Lucky to have birded around Scilly on a number of occasions with Judith and always enjoy a catch up with her when I bump into her on home turf, so I can tell you she isn't just the tireless "administrator persona" that most have come into contact with but also a pretty darned good birder.
The tireless hard work and determination Judith has shown is the sort of thing that should have seen her in the Queen's honours listing (Judith Smith MBE - or the like).
Ian, are you aware of/can you share Judith's future plans ?
Ah well, was just a thought, there should be some recognition of 19 years hard labour, some murderers get less than that!! Could this Forum do something?
I think Paul (the Doc) makes a valid point. Cheers Ian

Hahaha, shows how long I've been away from the Greater Manchester hierarchy, or just a sign of old age (since it ceased to exist when I lived there!!!), GMBC then!?

Thanks for moving all these posts into a dedicated thread, Ian :) It is the least Judith deserve - her name up in lights - for her tireless, dedicated and often thankless task of being County Recorder and Bird Report Editor for the last 19 years. Greater Manchester Birding wouldn't be, and won't be, the same without her at 'the helm', as everyone keeps saying she will be very sorely missed.
How about MOS giving some honarary recognition to Judith for services rendered? I'm sure we would all support that, any ideas? What about Life President?

Cheers Paul

I speak as an outsider of course who has only bumped into Judith on 4/5 occasions at most. However what has struck me, based on these few first hand impressions and her input into the annual report and to conservation work generally, is her formidable and quite awesome dedication and sheer stamina expended over so many years in a role which must be pretty demanding when executed to such a high standard.
I wish you well Judith in whatever you do next; and do hope you'll "keep on birding!"
Best Wishes, Mike P.

Heard about Judith's resignation a couple of days ago, what a surprise as long as I've been seriously birdwatching in Manchester Judith has been our leading light, congratulations on all the things you have done to raise the profile of Manc birds, just watched on Look North about our Peregrines for example, the bird report etc and much, much more. Just read the job description, my God how did you find the time to do all that? . That is some act to follow. Best wishes for the future Judith we all owe you
And good luck to anyone going for the future job, theres a lot going on there, lots to do and be responsible for, best of luck to who ever fancys the challenge
