Dear all,

As the majority of you are aware, I had set out to complete a 2011 year list. Unfortunately I have decided to end my attempt early for a number of reasons, although time, of lack thereof, is the main underlying reason behind my decision.

I would just like to thank all the birders who have provided support in one way or another, mainly through the provision of information, during the course of the year.

Cheers Iain

Iain, all the best, it is a long hard slog, don't forget to have fun along the way, I learnt a lot from my attempt.

Good Luck and keep Birding

Hello,

I have a confession and so to confirm rumours of the GM's birding scene worst kept secret, I would like to confirm that I am currently attempting a county year list for 2011.

It had started out as a light hearted attempt by myself to see as many species as possible as until recently I hadn't spent that much time birding in the county. So I have yet to spend a twelve month period birding in GM. Therefore was interested to see what I might be able to see by dedicating more time to county birding.

So with some good fortune and encouragement I decided to have a serious crack at a county year list. I have missed a couple of birds and had a few disappointments so far but my list currently stands at 147.

Some of you might be aware of the monthly totals achieved by the previous county listers and note that I am a few species behind their respective attempts. But I have taken the view that I'm not interested in having the highest monthly totals, as it is the end result that matters, after all its a marathon and not sprint!

So far I have ticked off most of the commoner resident species and so am really on the look out for the scarer birds passing through.

If you feel that you may be able to assist then please feel free to get in touch, my mobile number is 07969 877 806.

Thanks Iain
