RE: Barnton,nr Northwich

11:15 Peregrine seen twice, within a couple of minutes, over the Grange Avenue/Runcorn Road area. First, in low flight and then higher up in stooping flight. There are good numbers of jackdaws, woodpigeons, collared doves and starlings in the area.

Two skeins of Pink-footed Goose, one soon after the other, flying East at 14:25. Rough estimate of 100+ in total.

Barnton

Woodpigeon - a juvenile seen today. Given that the nestling period for this species is 3-4 weeks, this bird must have been born/hatched in the first half of February.

On the Trent & Mersey Canal (near Saltersford Tunnel) - a hybrid duck - Mallard x (Carolina) Wood Duck male. The bird is pinioned and has presumably been released on to the canal. Just thought it worth a mention in case it appears elsewhere on the canal or nearby Weaver Navigation. NB. There are many images of this hybrid on the Internet.

While out walking yesterday afternoon over fields near to my house we came across a nice female Stonechat sat on a wire fence and making short dalliances down onto the ground.....I've only ever seen Stonechats at or near the coast before so thought it was worth mentioning!smile.gif
