Dipper flying down Bollin at bottom of Rossmill lane walks on May the 6th in the afternoon! My daughter has seen one here many times this year!

As it is still about does that mean they could be breeding!

Seven goosander young on the 7th! At least two weeks old!

About 50 yards from Hale golf course, on the motorway side.

Ah, we were wondering whether it could be chics from two different broods!

Some wildfowl will take broods from other pairs of their species (I've seen Goldeneye do this) to decrease the chance of their own young being predated. There were reports of two pairs of Goosander on the Bollin recently, so my guess is that the brood you saw contains the young of the other pair who will have departed once their chicks had been taken over.

There have been a pair of Goosanders between Hale golf course and the motorway bridge (SJ 78815 84697) for months, they now have ten young.

There is a mystery however, there are three large young and seven much smaller.

Any explanations? Very poor pics from my mobile!

Had a walk up behind the airport this afternoon mainly to let my grandson, visiting from Cornwall, watch the planes. He was also very interested to see the Grey Wagtail family flitting about in the Bollin tunnel under runway 2.

Had a walk up behind the airport this afternoon and through the Bollin Tunnel under runway 2. A couple of Grey Wagtails we flitting in and out of the tunnel and there was a male Goosander upstream toward the Valley Lodge Hotel. Both seen from GM side of the river wink.gif
