RE: the biking birder

Cheers Paul,

Yeah a nice guy, totally crazy of course but arent us all birders a bit Mad anyway, its just a way for us to vent our obbsessive compultions! or is that just me biggrin.gif

I did check on his blog and unfortunatly he Dipped on the iceland gull on the last day after a four hour stint looking for the bird until darkness came in, he did match the record with 250 but did not beat it, a genuine galliant effort though, well done from mesmile.gif

Bill Oddie sponsored him per bird but not sure how much smile.gif

Yesterday i had a random visit to sandwell rspb in birmingham. I had the pleasure to meet Gary Prescott. Also known all over the net as the biking birder. In jan 2010 on the 1st he set off on a green biking mission to visit every single rspb reserve in uk and ireland by peddle power. He cycled over 5000 miles in a full year and yesterday he turned up back at sandwell with a list total of 250 matching the year list cycling list but with still five hours to go a iceland gull which was a dip bird turned up 20 miles away so off he cycled to try to get 251 to beat the previous green record. And who said birders are mad. Not sure if he got the iceland yet. He has not posted yet.

Also very sad to see the remains of the 30 year old visitors center that was set on fire. Very sad
