RE: Morpeth

Just got home from a very interesting week in and around Morpeth, I went to a few of the places mentioned by Holly and saw a few great birds. Had a boat trip out of Amble to see the Puffins on croqute island and saw my first ever Roseate Tern. I went to Druridge pool and saw a little eagret which the locals where flocking to see (Thanks to the couple who pointed me in the right direction) Loads of other great bird sightings, but a huge thanks to Holly your info really helped

My parents live up in Morpeth so I know of a few places up there. Druridge bay is a good place, it's quite a long bay and there are several places you can get to it from. The village of Cresswell is a good place, a lovely long beach and there is a pond (where this a small chance of seeing otters!) on the other side of the road from the sea with a hide (you get to this by going up a track to a farm and there is a gated path on your right.). Further up the A1068 (road to Amble) there is Druridge Bay Country Park & then a bit further again is Hauxley Nature Reserve. There are hides but you can take your dog round and you get get onto the beach there as well.

If you fancy going a bit further afield, Kielder Water is a good day out.

All these are dog friendly.

If you can escape for a day, a trip over to the Farne's is a must. The boats go from Seahouses.

If you go into Newcastle at all, head down to the Tyne Bridge to see the Kittiwake's nesting colony.

Amble is also a nice little fishing village to visit - it also has an excellant chippy on the harbour and you can share your leftovers with the eiders!!!

Hi all I will be going up to Morpeth a week on Sunday and as it will be my first ever visit to that part of the world I was wondering if anyone had any info on places to go for the best sites to see birds.I will be with the family so unless I can escape for a few days I will have family and dogs in tow,so any dog friendly places for birding will be appreciated, Thanks in advance Shaun.
