RE: Rivington Pike

Walked from Rivington Barn up to Rivington Pike (I've never been before and was on a social walk with a group) but heard a cuckoo on the way up and same area on the way back - around 13.00 and 14.30

Walked from Belmont Road to Georges Lane (GM border), outward through the woodland and

return via moorland edge and Pigeon Tower. 10.30-14.30.

Woodland : 5 Goldcrests (3+2) with 1 seen doing aerial sorties to catch winter gnats, 2 Coal Tits and 1 Nuthatch.

A flock of 46 Fieldfares on the sheep pasture. 3 Ravens seen over the moor.

Morning walk around the Japanese Gardens and surrounding woodland.

2 Wood Warblers (1 in song and giving excellent views).

2 Willow Warblers were seen collecting food, plus 1 Chiffchaff was singing from the top of a dead conifer.

2 Kestrels hovered over the moorland close to the Pigeon Tower.

P.M. walk from the barn up to the pike & back via Japanese Gardens.

2 Nuthatch around the barn area.

Good numbers of Redwing devouring Holly berries.

2 Chaffinch, 3 Bullfinch & a Grey Wagtail around the Japanese Gardens.

3 female Reed Bunting away from the main forest on the reedy slopes with a flushed Woodcock on the forest edge.

Also seen Goldcrest & Jay but surprisingly not a single raptor.

The Reed Bunting pic appears to show blue in its wings which I believe is a reflection from the sky.

Amazing walk yesterday, albeit a bit icy!

Buzzard on a fence near the Reservoir. On the walk up to the pike, 2 Treecreeper were seen plus a lot of Blue Tits.

Usually see a kestrel on the walk but didn't spot it this time.
