Birders should be Birders, therefore they like BIRDS, therefore this is a silly topicyawn.gifdisbelief.gifno.gifwink.gifcry.gifdoh.gif

Pleased to report that I don't dislike any birds.
I can't understand people who call common birds "trash birds" (and worse !)
But hey, that's just my opinion and to an extent that's what this forum is all about....

Nothing to do with birds is taboo on here Bill, bar Publisizing the location of breeding birds , if it were, this thread would be closed by now. This thread though could become very emotive for some and where emotions are concerned, light handed and light hearted often don't come into it I'm afraid. As the person who has to moderate every post and has to sort out indifferences I'd rather this forum stayed positive, I've had enough on my plate recently to last me a good while so I'd rather we steered clear currently atleast. I love Nothing better than to see a good discussion form, including (especially?) of contentious issues but surely there are better topics of discussion than birds we dislike the most?

I personally can't see anything wrong with this type of thread providing it is approached with a light-handed and light-hearted attitude. I have to agree though that some of the threads have got more than a little mad and unpleasant over the last few weeks - but that is surely down to the way people are posting and not the subject matter? - surely we don't want a forum where all sorts of subjects are taboo? banned.gif I put it all down to the harsh weather - too many people indoors, too much time on their hands, too many people sat at their PCs, pc.gif too much pent-up energy - leading to way too much conflict!

Now that people are able to get back out of doors - I'm sure we'll see a welcome return on the forum to peace, peace.gif love and understanding!handshake.gif If there isn't an immediate improvement in manners on the forum then I'm afraid that I may have to ask Ronnie and Reggie - chief enforcers at Yobz'R'Us - to pay a quick visit to all wayward posters to have a "quiet chat" with them! rofl.gif

As John say a little earlier in the thread let's get back to good friendly banter, with interesting, helpful and positive posts - then no topics will need to be out of bounds will they?

Cheers Bill.

Nothing of the sort Steve but such a thread is rather negative and comments about species being evil or disgusting can often quite rightly urge others to defend those species. Then a discussion ensues, strays off topic, gets heated, causes anguish, gets moderated etc etc. Been there before...

Oops! Put my foot in it again! no.gifno.gif

Sorry, Ian - feel free to close the thread, though I don't really see why we can discuss our favourite birds but not our least favourite. Why we like birds, and why we like some more than others, is a subject which has always fascinated me. Anyone interested in the subject should read "Birdscapes" by Jeremy Mynott.

Please don't blame me for creating animosity!

Cheers, Steve

Awwhh I like cormorants- they keep me amused by the stupid acrobatics & they look so prehistoric when they dry their wings biggrin.gif You could always train them to do your fishing for you, I hear they are really good! wink.gif

This has got to be an interesting thread.

Following Mels' railing against Magpies, it was Rachael's "Dead Duck" thread which got me thinking. I just don't like Muscovy Ducks at all. Ugly blighters. Make Feral Pigeons look attractive!

Steve

Muscovy not my favourite either, just hoping there's no sickos out there like we had before...... Reddish Vale always make me smile aboyt how proud they are of their muscovy!
....not sure on my least favourite, I'll leave the magpie lynch mob to melwink.gif
Suppose some would argue the cuckoo for it's 'parenting skill'. I do think sparrows & starlings are very under- rated birds, and over looked by everyone. Hmmm..... probably the feral pigeon would be my least favourite.
