Managed to get out of the office for half hour and headed for the nearest site that might contain a few birds.

Was a nice surprise crossing a bridge over the Medlock to find a Dipper feeding! Wasn't what I was expecting in such an urban area but very nice to see and a nice addition to my Manchester list :)

Four Swallows hawking together over the sewage-works near Woodhouses until they were scattered by a low-flying Peregrine. Backing vocals provided by Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Grey Wagtail amongst others. smile.gif

Hi, whereabouts is the dipping pond? Two good birds in Medlock. I do an annual report for Oldham Countryside service so am particularly interested in the sites in Medlock Valey.

First bird for 2010, and a lifer, a Water Rail on the dipping pond. Definitely a good start to the year! In the last few days Dippers have been showing well, managed to get within a few yards of them, and a remarkably confiding Kingfisher.
