Spent a couple of hours with my 8 year old nephew this afternoon,
Goosander has gone from last month, there was nothing else of note on the pond. The trees around the park were very busy with birds,
9 Mistle Thrush 2 Redwing 3 Goldcrest 1 Willow tit 2 Treecreeper 1 Reed Bunting 1 Jay Good numbers of Blue tit, Great tit, Blackbird, Robin and Chaffinch. Small numbers of Wren and Greenfinch Huge numbers of Goldfinch, Easily 100+ around the park
The lake full of the usual Mallards,Coots and a few Canada geese, there was a couple of Moorhen also 1 Redwing 1 Treecreeper 3 Greenfinch 2 Coal tit 2 Mistle thrush There was plenty Robin,Blackbird and Goldfinch Single birds of Wren and Dunnock
2 goosander present this morning along with the usaul mallards, coots and canada geese. 1 willow warbler 3 chiffchaff blue, great and long tailed tits 1 treecreeper 2 goldcrest wren robin blackbird 2 reed bunting 1 willow tit
I watched the treecreeper for a good 10 minutes collecting nesting material.
Canada geese, mallards, coot, moorhen, great, blue and long tailed tits, wren, robin, blackbird, coal tit, goldcrest, chaffinch, goldfinch. 4 swans 2 adults, 2 juveniles. Reed bunting. Very much the same as yesterday bar the treecreeper.
Goosander have gone now although tufted duck still present, very good numbers of mallards, coot, Canada geese, 1 swan with juvenile. Trees around the park very busy with birds also very vocal this morning mainly tits, robin, blackbird, wren, 1 pied wagtail feeding near the children's park. Underrated site this especially in spring and summer
3 goosander 2 female 1 male 2 tufted duck both female. Thought I'd put this on here as I've never see any other birds on here other then mallards, coots and Canada geese.
Firs Park Shoveler (pair on the lake) 4 Redwing male Sparrowhawk 70 Canada Geese
Fir tree Flash Flash itself very quiet - only a few mallard, coot, moorhen, BH Gull and a pair of Mute Swans. However small corpse between flash and Ena Road full of birds Reed Buntings - 25 LT Tits 20 Blue Tits 25 plus Chaffinch, Robin, Wren, Great Tit, Blackbird, House Sparrows and a Kestrel
Pete - If you are coming from the East Lancs Road, take the Leigh bypass Road. Carry along this past the Fire Station and the turn for Pennington Flash at the traffic lights - don't turn there. Keep on going and after a mini-roundabout, you will soon come to a very large roundabout. Turn first left and carry along this road. After some traffic lights by the abandoned Sportsman Pub, carry on for about 500 yards. On your right, just before St Peters Infant School, is an entrance to the park. Hope this makes sense!!

as with most parks in built up areas these days be carefull you don't have too much expensive equipment on show,I always found it better to visit firs park early morning as thats when you are most likely to find goosander or shoveler.

keep counts of the goosander at firs park,they have only just started visiting there,and shoveler as well, are not as common there as in the past.its a place thats underwatched now,but always worth a visit expecially if places locally are frozen.They seem to be the goosanders that are roosting at penny teal hide area in the afternoons
