I have been contacted by concerned Birchwood residents about the construction work which has started this weekend between Cavendish Road and Daten Ave and the potential disturbance to breeding birds. To assist them, can anybody confirm some of the breeding species in the area? I understand there are Lapwing and Little Ringed Plover in the area. On a quick visit this lunch time I also saw Ringed Plover but dont know if these are breeding. If anybody has any knowledge/more information on the construction work that would also be appreciated.
Please respond by PM
Thanks
David

a brief walk round Birchwood business park on my lunch and saw 3 white wagtail, 4 pied wagtail, possible the scruffiest grey heron I've ever seen with quite a few missing feathers in its wings as it flew over, 1 buzzard riding a thermal, several goldfinches and 1 oystercatcher on a patch of grass between the offices not far from the hotel
I've just walked round there but didn't see it so must have moved on gutted. However there were two little ringed plovers on there along with the usual garden birds

Sadly I found a deceased Chiffchaff in Birchwood today - office window strike [seemed a real shame - all that way from Africa to be defeated by a reflective bit of glass]. On the positive side I remembered reading on here about Manchester Museum - one quick email later and it's in the freezer to be posted on Monday to join the study skins.
