We just feed the basic mixed seed on our bird, table and get 20+ Tree Sparrows in each winter. If Tree Sparrows are in your area I,m sure they,ll eat most seeds.Ian Mc who lives less than half mile from me doesn't get Tree Sparrows,he must just be outside their feeding range!!
The bird feed supplier I use was promoting red and white millet seed last week. They claimed that it was the favourite food of sparrows so I thought I'd get some for the few House sparrows that frequent my garden. Sure enough, the sparrows soon found the feeder and seemed to prefer it to sunflower seed. But there was an unexpected bonus - for the first time in 25 years of living here I had a Tree sparrow on the feeder yesterday. And today there were two. I will definitely be ordering millet on a regular basis now, especially as it does not go down as quickly as sunflower and is cheaper.
