While respecting Ian's perfectly understandable desire to keep the murky world of politics off the forum, I ought to correct an inaccuracy in my earlier post.
Apparently the BNP has not made a donation to 3 Owls - they have "pledged their support".
So - no money for 3 Owls, but plenty of free publicity for the BNP. Say no more.
Hmmm, careful with the way this one goes people...
I think if anyone does have any information as to Steve's finding in the Guardian (yes, I had to Google 'Grauniad', Birding World is as close to a tabliod as I read ) then I think it best treated in a private message either way please.
Firstly, having first hand experience of newspapers I believe very little of what they publish. Secondly, if Three Owls had done as they (the Grauniad) purport, does this prove affiliation with the party or just that a struggling bird sanctuary and reserve such as themselves will accept donations from anyone in order to stay afloat and continue the tremendous work they carry out?
There is no doubt they are struggling, see here:

For the work they have done in our county alone I think they need our help at the moment and any talk of the BNP will do nothing to help their cause.

I read something in the "Grauniad" about 3 Owls accepting a donation from the British National Party. Does anyone know anything about this?
Presumably such money could only be spent on caring for native British birds and not for these nasty foreign migrants who would have to be repatriated!
Currently got a juv little grebe !! in a box waiting to go to 3 owls in the morning.
poorl little blighter flew into the wall at work " The Car People " on ashton moss. and just sat by the doors looking all dazed. Will email some pics to Ian over the next couple of days.
