Osprey seen by my brother and his wife on Saturday evening at the usual reservoir in Lyme (see previous posts). It then flew off south and a check on Sunday morning was negative; could return though.
News from my brother this evening of an osprey on Bollinghurst Reservoir (at the eastern end of the park). It was seen to fly into trees and perch at 6.00 p.m. so presumably will still around for the night. Note that entry to the site is not strictly available, but views might be obtainable from the surrounding area.
Just outside park (Disley), a red kite was seen on Monday for the second time in the last few weeks from a garden on Goyt Avenue. As before, it was drifting towards New Mills.
At least two Spotted Flycatchers still in the trees around the picnic area where Lynne saw them. They are quiet confiding and didn't seem to mind sharing their territory with a large and noisy group of teenagers.
Marshalling for a trail race today, saw a green woodpecker at the edge of Knightslow wood. Also, 3 spotted flycatchers in the clump of trees by the picnic area next to the main car park.
Just outside Lyme Park - A Hobby flew over Bakestonedale Road just before the Tour of Britain leaders arrived. (Well done Ian Stannard on a fine solo )
Cheers John
SPOILER ALERT!! Yes, well done to Ian Stannard. but I'd prefer to find that out by watching my recorded highlights rather than reading your post John

The Hall carpark was full today and the overspill carpark was filling up this afternoon,so it was very busy with people especially near the Hall. I headed into Crow Wood and the playground area was packed and noisy as expected. I was hoping for Pied Flycatcher which I had looked for a couple of evenings after work this week, but had not seen any, although I only had half an hour or so each time.Once I got more into the wood and the activity reduced I looked around, I heard a distant Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming, and saw Great,Blue and Longtailed tits, and then saw a male Pied Flycatcher and then a female, obviously a pair,a welcome sight! I also saw Treecreeper and Nuthatch, and a Wren was singing from a tree branch, such a contrast from the crowds not far away! All the best Good Birding! Mark
Had an hour this evening in Lyme Park before it closed at 8pm. Walked past the mill pond and on the pond, Moorhen with young, and the usual Mallard.Walked into Crow Wood and heard lots of Chiffchaff and Chaffinch, saw Blackbird,Nuthatch and then saw a Male Pied Flycatcher which I was very pleased to see,as not seen here last few visits.Walked on out of Crow Wood, towards Elmhurst Wood, and from the path saw good view of Nuthatch and a Jay,then a Grey wagtail near the small sewage works, then a Male Common Pheasant in the field. I then had to head back, and from the car park saw 4 House Martin and 2 Barn Swallow flying near the Hall. All the best and Good Birding. Mark
Common Sandpiper by the mill pond, Wood Warbler, Lapwing, Curlew, grasshopper Warbler, Pied Flycatcher, Redstart, nesting Kestrels, skylarks, Meadow Pipit, Mandarin pair, loads of Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff plus all the usual woodland species.
Had a nice walk around Lyme Park today in glorious sunshine, which did bring the people in,but still worthwhile.Usual woodland species in Elmhurst and Crow Woods, and very pleased to report a sighting of a Male Pied Flycatcher in Crow Wood, and lots of calling Chiffchaff, and my first sighting of Willow Warbler,up near the Reservoirs,as well as 2 Swallows. Also, just out of the park on the Moors above,Lapwings Curlew and Raven, towards Black Rocks, but did not see Ring Ouzel. All the best Mark.

Hi,Just to let everyone know it has been announced that Lyme Park will be closed tomorrow Saturday 10th,due to the predicted high winds. This has happened several times since the incident in Dunham Massey a few years ago where I think someone was killed by a Beech tree being blown over.I believe Dunham Massey is looking into the situation tomorrow to see if they will be open. I also saw the Bramblings in Knightslow wood on 31st Dec,have not been back since then. Good Birding and all the best from Mark.
Nice walk round the estate yesterday, covered plenty of ground. Not tons of 'exciting' birds, lots of common and very common woodland birds, and plenty of fledged young, so more a day for enjoying some of the nuances. Plus the deer were lovely. Best bird of the day a female Redstart, visible from outside the 'no access' wood beyond the Red Deer sanctuary but no Flycatchers or other migrants that I could find. I'll head back on a weekday I think.
On the Moor 2 Kestrel, Raven, Linnets, Pied Wagtail, 2 Skylark and lots of Meadow Pipits. Very Clear could see the two Cathedrals in Liverpool, Darwin and Holcombe Tower
A lot of birds moving this morning at the east side of Lyme Park from 8.30 - 10.00
Meadow Pipit 100+ going south east Great spotted Woodpecker 4 Spotted Flycatcher 1 south end of Green Lane. Buzzard 3 Reed Bunting 1 Siskin, Chaffinch etc
At least 3 Spotted Flycatchers were sat on top of a dead tree this evening in a tract of woodland that borders the bridleway leading out of lyme park (towards millennium wood and mudhurst lane).
Male Red-Crested Pochardon the Timber Yard pool. Lots of House Martins nesting under the eaves of Lyme Hall. Crow Wood busy with the sound of young children - nothing much but Blue Tits about.
