RE: Bickerstaffe/Aughton area

Friday 20ty Nov

Id just exited the M58 towards Ormskirk when a massive skein of Pink-footed Geese came flying over. 6 or 7 groups made up the single super skein totalling around 2500-3000 birds.
Thats only a rough estimate, but it seemed to be never ending.

Delivering to a customer near Bickerstaffe yesterday morning.

4 close skeins of Pink-footed Geese over the nearby farmland probably between 750-1000 birds in total

Currently lots of Leaser Black-backed Gulls in one of the ploughed fields opposite the Stanley Gate pub.
Some Curlew and Jackdaw with them too!

Quail singing 6.30am this morning at the back of Red House Farm on New Way.

Two sightings of an adult hobby here last Sunday.

Quail still singing south east of New Way Farm this evening. Otherwise usual stuff - yellowhammers, tree sparrows, grey & redleg partridge and a couple of buzzards.

I bird this area fairly regularly on my way to Marshside - excellent farmland birding.

On Saturday morning a quail was calling by New Way Farm on - surprisingly - New Way. Also male yellow wag and little owl on Graveyard Lane. This morning the same, or maybe another quail was calling from the east end of New Way, by Wood End Farm. Pointless listening at original location as farmer was crop spraying.
