15 Shelduck on Blackstone Edge Res'r this evening ( 3 adults and 12 juvs) - the most I've ever seen in Rochdale

Also a stonking male summer plumaged Grey Plover on White Holme Resr - was flushed by a Peregrine at 19:00 but unfortunately couldn't get it to fly into GM airspace! Also 2 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plover and an Oystercatcher here - really need to get Rochdale to invade Calderdale to get White Holme into GM where it belongs!

Congratulations Alan,
on adding yet another new species to the Rochdale list. You certainly deserve it after all the hours you put in up there. Thankfully this one was actually in Rochdale / Greater Manchester airspace rather than over White Holme. biggrin.gif I believe it's only the 9th record for Greater Manchester.
Keep them coming!

Steve

0700-1015hrs
By far the best trip to the high ground this year. While walking South along rhe Pennine way I noticed a large bird flying towards me. The first impression was Crane/Flamingo. The bird passed over me at about 100 feet it had shallow wingbeats and I could clearly see a spattulate bill!! Spoonbill, I can tell you that the earth moved at that moment. The bird carried on along Light Hazzels did a flyover Warland, made a right turn and passeded over White Holme heading in a South East direction, 0950hrs.The bird had a visible yellow neck band making it an adult.A first for me in Greater Manchester,White Holme,
Black stone, 1 Redshank,2 Lapwing, 2 Common sandpiper.
White Holme, 1 Whimbrel.
Warland, 3 Dunlin, 4 Common sandpiper.
14 species
Cheers Alan
