I honestly don't think there will be any occupancy until the gasholder comes down.

No trips yet - no time, no money!

But a nice couple of shelduxk on Newton-le-Willows lake the other day plus a lot of "mucky" ducks appeared from somewhere???

Cheers Sid.As I work in St Helens and am in town most dinnertimes I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Last week watched a Magpie building a nest roof in a tree next to the garage on College Street and there was a Wood Pigeon sat on a nest in a bare tree outside the Main Post Office!!disbelief.gif

Neil, yes the parish church is just down from M&S. From Judith's original message the nest box has been placed in the turret with anticipated good views from the car park side however should the Peregrines take up residence the location will become fairly obvious I imagine wink.gif

Is the Parish Church the one opposite Marks & Spencers?

On which side is the nest box - had a look this dinnertime but couldn't see anything.

There were about 20 Pigeons on the church roof so obviously no Peregrines in the vicinity.

Excellent views of black tern at Carr Mill Dam this evening - I was the only one there at this time too!

Thanks to Dave Owen for the tip-off :)

Also a local angler told me that the local kingfishers have had 7 young!!!

And that he reckons there is a red kite knocking about .... I'll be keeping my eyes open

500+ Black-Headed Gulls were fly-catching near to the town centre this afternoon, presumably attracted by a dispersal of flying ants

Possible male Red-footed falcon reported over town centre this morning, possibly for it's second day.

Let's hope it moves to Pennington!

We went over to St Helens, my wife's home town today to visit family. Had the chance to wander around Taylor Park for half an hour or so. Pleasantly surprised to see how healthy the boating lake is looking - haven't been there for years. They seem to have an aeration system similar to Salford Quays and the water looked really well. Birds present 4 Great Crested Grebe, Coots with chicks, plenty of Mallard and 3 Common Tern, 2 Lesser Black backed Gulls.

PS Anyone know how this "aeration" system works - it looks as if water is being recirculated?
