Star of the show was the returning Black Guillemot, which just sailed into view under our noses in the harbour mouth @ 10.10 At times we could plainly hear it calling out for a mate......
Just prior to that we were looking at a Shag on the wooden jetty, which we hadn`t seen earlier whilst scanning through the Cormorants. When we`d finished admiring the Guillemot and turned our attention back to the Shag it had gone.....
A flock of 26+ Kittiwakes flew in near the outfalls which we presumed had just followed a ship into harbour - they soon disappeared, and we then honed in on a Little Gull, sat on the sand with Black-headed Gulls.
We counted at least 20 Eiders and probably the same number of Red-breasted Mergansers flying/sailing up and down the channels at high-tide.
As we left the harbour Jimmy spotted one of the `resident` Purple Sandpipers on the jetty where there was at least 40 Turnstone.
At Red Nab we had a couple of Dunlin and 4 Linnets, and walking back through the Reserve had a male Blackcap.
