RE: Salford Quays

No sign of the Caspian or Mediterranean Gulls in a quick look at lunchtime today. But the sunlight made it almost unbirdable from the Lowry side and I didn't have time to go over to Trafford. But there were actually a hell of a lot of gulls out on the Wharf today.

Some late news from yesterday. I had a 1w Caspian Gull at Mode Wheel Locks. Thanks to Ian and Pete Berry for taking a look at some photos for me last night. I'll hopefully be able to have another look for it tomorrow, but if anyone's in the area, it was sitting on a little brick building just up from Coronation Street. Worth having a look on Trafford Great Wharf for it too.

Nice surprise on todays lunchtime walk was a Firecrest feeding in bushes adjacent to White City circle. Present from 1.20-1.40 at least in bushes between the canal and railway line watched from canal footbridge just off Pomona strand. Appeared to be on it's own with no other birds in the area during this time.

Just had 3 peregrines having a violent aerial battle right above my head on Metroplex business Park opposite the BBC. When they let go of each other, it appeared to be two adults attacking a juvenile they were gripped onto each other spinning around plummeting to the ground.. All 3 screaming! Was quite a sight!

11.15am A Peregrine flew past me at head hight along Merchants Quay before swooping up and flushing a flock of pigeons from one of the rooftops. It failed to catch any and after slowly circling it flew off over towards the BBC building.

Also approx 20 redwing feeding on the rowans outside Laser house.

Cheers Steve. CDY6 was ringed as a male cygnet on 23-8-12 at Christleton pool near Chester (I'd had information on this bird earlier in the year).
