Hello new on here just stumbled across this site looking for the name of a bird I saw last night on the quays I know now it was the Egyptian goose so thank you :) She was with the Canadian geese last night outside the Holiday Inn and Age Croft Rowing Club (next to the pub) I have started walking round there most nights now so will keep an eye out for it. Jamie x
Thank you for the reply! I kind of feel sorry for the Egyptian Goose, she must be lonely and disorientated here alone... I will try Pomona, from your reports it seems like there is more water birds there. PS: I ve recently been to Brussels and saw lots of Egyptian Geese for the first time. There is loads of them there. Them, Mallards and Coots. How suprised I was when I saw one here!!
Thanks for your post, the Egyptian Goose is likely to be either an escape/release from captivity or from the UK feral population. As it is un-ringed it is not possible to say for certain
The whole of Pomona is good for birdwatching, the Kestrels can be seen hunting around Pomona, & recently they have been seen around the Liverpool Warehouse Building

Also, guys, from which spot do you watch birds on Pomona? And where do the Kestrels hang around on Clippers Quay? Ive never seen them and I live in Abito. I feed the birds very often and Ive never seen anyone watching or feeding them on Clippers Quay ;] so its not only me ;]
Black-headed gulls 92 - mainly on bathing pool area 16.30 Lesser Black-backed Gull 3 Egyptian Goose still present - resting on concrete platform near Trafford Rd Bridge

No sign of Mediterranean Gull during walk around the Quays 19:00 - 21:00, Egyptian Goose was at Clippers Quay and ate some of my tasty seeded batch bread for dinner:)
Late post for Thurs 5th now I've got more time. I returned to Clippers Quay to find the Mediterranean gull was still present in exactly the same spot on the side of the bathing pool at 13.25. It remained here resting during this 20 minute visit. I believe the bird to be a 2nd summer adult with dark stripes on edge of primaries.
During the earlier sighting the gull was first sighted sat on the water before flying onto the concrete platform area near to Trafford Road Bridge from the bathing pool. The gull also flew, with 3 black-headed gulls towards Media City before returning within 10 minutes. It settled on the side of the bathing pool, where it appears to have remained for at least 1.5 hours.
Also; Cormorant 8, Mute Swan 5, Heron 1, Coot 1, Black-headed gull 20, Lesser black-backed gull 1, Canada Geese 8, Mallard 15, Kestrel 2 over, House Sparrow 2 No sign of the Egyptian Goose during these periods
Thanks James - I hope you get to see it

The destination was Weaste Cemetery with the same friend who was searching for relatives last week. We saw Mark Addy and Eddie Coleman's graves but called it quits because a youth showed us his private parts - uninvited. It could have got nasty as there were six of them but what do you do but ignore these types??? - I know James and a few others look about that area just a heads up to be careful
I have to say John, that this is a serious Police matter and should have been reported as such. Sure, we can complain that they never do anything etc but what if next time it's a single woman on her own?
Still some House Martin (at least 2) getting very close to the water (Bridgewater Canal) I could hear Skylarks singing from Pomona scrubland (alas I was on the opposite side of the canal motoring towards Old Trafford) Blackcap also heard in the fringes of Pomona.

A great list James, thanks for posting it. I think many of us would put the possibility of finding Skylark or Lesser Whitethroat on Pomona as about as likely as finding Roe Deer wandering around the precinct. Really does show what can be found.
