Hi Tim/Ian/ peter Thanks for the info im determined to spot the parakeets. I know there are quite a few in the London parks and woods but didnt realise that they had spread this far north.
As to the dry weir I knew it was on the border of Stretford and chorlton but since it was listed on the (interest of chorlton map on this site) I thought it was just on the chorlton side.
The allotments are a private site and you cannot view them from outside anyway. There are plenty of opportunites to see the birds in Platt Fields, Alex Park and elswehere. See the Parakeet thread
Hi Guys Can somebody tell me where these allotments are, the ones where the ringed necked parakeets keep getting spotted?
In fact, I have been asked in the past that the exact whereabouts of the allotments should not be exposed on this forum so's not to attract attention to this sensitive site which users of the allotments (or whatever you call them, 'allotmenteers'?) have asked. I'm sure those with the info on these birds can advise a more suitable location to see the birds though

Not a great deal around Chorlton Ees this morning
Buzzard getting mobbed by gulls at car park 3 Shovelers/12 Teal/3 Heron/Fieldfares and 1 cormorant on the Weir near the football fields. 2 Great spotted woodpeckers calling and flying back and forth at the Heronry site
Kestrel hovering over car park Goldfinches on island Long tailed Tits every where 2 Bullfinches on tip 2 pairs of Great crested grebes Coots/moorhens/mallards/tufted ducks/Canada geese and 3 pairs of Teal on lake. Cormorant fishing in amongst the BHGulls Heron on Kingfisher Island Kingfishers are still around, this morning there were 2 flying back and forth across the lake from the benches by the herb garden Great Spotted Woodpecker on bird table in car park (been seen daily for the past couple months) Coal/Great/Blue Tits/jay/dunnock/ BB and chaffinch also on bird table near hut. Grey wagtail and Pied near the bridge 1 male Pheasant ran across the path towards the orchard. I hear them often in this area but rarely see them fieldfares finishing off the fruit in the orchard
Hi Guys Does anyone know where i can find a detailed map online of chorlton ees and water park, there are a few basic maps but they dont give any details of what the fields/farms/different walks Etc are called.
Hi Carl, There has not been much news coming out from these sites recently, so it nice to know that somebody else is out there looking. Chorlton WP and Chorlton Ees have their own threads on the forum, just use the search facility. I too live in Chorlton and work at the WP, though Council politics dictates that my services are required to be contracted out to other peoples sites these days I'll send you a PM. Cheers

Hi Guys First time visitor to this site, im quite surprised theres not more posts on Chorlton Water Park and Ees. Its a great place to go. Im down there 3/4 times pwk. It doesnt matter whether morning, noon or early evening If you just hang around for about an hour you always get to see around 20-30 species of birds Loads of Reed buntings on the meadow, a great Heronry in the old sewage works, Kingfishers along the canal (though i havent seen any for 2 wks), greenfinches by Jacksons boat, whitethroats near the Ees car park, Buzzards, jays and cormorants can be seen on the walk to sale water park from Chorlton Ees together with flocks of long tailed tits and lapwings.
Im still looking for the ring necked parakeets spotted in Chorlton but no luck so far.
Can somebody tell me if it appropriate for me to post the photos ive taken of the birds ive seen or is there a separate site for this, I think it sometimes helps to see a photo especially for inexperienced bird watchers.
