A pair of Tawny Owls in our Leigh (Lilford) garden about 8pm last night - good views silhouetted in the bare trees. Happy about this as I don't recall seeing/hearing them at all in 2016.
Also a superb female Sparrowhawk this morning - didn't stay around long but good views while she was perched on a neighbour's tree.
A pair of Collared Doves courting and subsequently mating on the fence of the balcony of my back garden right in front of my kitchen window. Spring is definitely coming!
First Collared Dove seen in my Chorlton garden for a while this morning- seemed to 'lose' them after a two week holiday over Christmas, so nice to see one back.
Also, while no means a 'rare' sighting, spotted a male House Sparrow on my neighbour's roof today, first one I'd seen on our road for many many months.

The busiest day of the winter in my Romiley garden attracted a male blackcap. Supporting cast included male bullfinch, 4 goldfinches, 5+ greenfinches, goldcrest and the nuthatch mentioned yesterday had decided that bird feeders were the only swingers he was interested in. Definitely a day for watching through the glass.

Garden record high count of three nuthatches. Have had one on infrequent occasions this winter, but these were all in my alder tree at the same time (one calling which I've never had in the garden before). I got the impression that the other two were a roaming pair beginning to seek out a territory, and 'mine' was making sure they moved on. It did eventually fly after them though so I'm hoping it didn't fancy trying its luck with a threesome and comes back!!
First ever Song Thrush in my Chorlton Garden this morning while going BTO GBW count for the week. Other highlights were 2 Goldfinches and 4 Long-tailed Tits.
Been putting out some chopped up bread mixed with dog food and owt else that's near its sell by date out of the fridge and best count of Blackbirds feeding at any one time so far is 15 ,but the interesting thing is they're all males apart from one female which is the most aggressive and dominant bird there!!
Mistle thrush on the berry tree outside my bedroom window. Knowing that all the waxwings that are about, I almost had a heart attack when I openned the curtains bleary eyed this morning. This is however the first bird I've seen on this tree feeding all winter, so holding out hope that something better might take a liking it to it!
A female blackcap was in my old trafford garden yesterday morning, it landed in the tree where I have placed some apples but did not stay long. Also a peregrine falcon was chasing the feral pigeons around in the wind but soon lost to view.
A slight upturn this weekend in birds coming to the garden (still eating mostly last years seed), with the first nuthatch for about a month, and even more momentous, a pair of bullfinches on a feeder (first for well over a year I think). Let's hope for something cold after Christmas so I can start on this years seed supply, and perhaps get a real surprise bird.
Looks like a "white christmas" has come early to my garden as this Sparrowhawk took out one the "white flying rats" that plague my garden and steal all the food put down for the finches, only 9 birds left in flock now, hopefully it'll get the taste for them and take a few more
Grey Wagtail that was around my garden in Golborne (and other gardens nearby) for winter last year returned again on Tuesday (at least that was the first time I have seen it again).
On the feeders/around this morning, 2x Coal Tits, A Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, Collared Doves, Wren, around 10 House Sparrows, 4 Blue Tits, a Great Tit, circa 50 starlings

Just had a Dunnock and a Goldfinch in my garden in Chorlton, first of each for a while (especially the Dunnock, I think my cats probably scare them off!).
Since Rowan leaves dropped a week or so ago the few berries left were first targeted by blackbirds then this week a pair? Of mistle thrushes and now Starlings hovering up last ones.
