Also in Dukinfield this morning had the pleasure of watching an adult Song Thrush teaching it's young how to bash a snail and extract the food. First time I've ever witnessed this particular behaviour. Nuthatch, Willow Warbler, Wren and a few juvenile Goldfinch have also been present this week.
Some nice sightings in our Dukinfield Garden over the last couple of days.
Yesterday a Goldcrest was collecting food from the Lime Tree and flying off down the side of the house, often hear these singing in spring and summer but never seen any other breeding evidence before. Also a worst for wear female Blackcap collecting food. We had a male singing around the local gardens during spring but not heard or seen since.
This morning a young Song Thrush was on the lawn early on, a fresh Willow Warbler flew into the Lime Tree this afternoon and the Goldcrest was back collecting food again. This Lime Tree seems to produce plenty of food for foraging birds, usually Blue Tits and Sparrows but also attracts Nuthatch, Coal Tits and Great Tits.
Buzzard over my son's garden in Bolton ( Bromwich Street). Heard it first, saw it being harassed by a crow. Cracking garden tick for a visiting birder.
Mediterranean gull flew over my flixton garden this evening just before 7pm. 2 ravens have been hanging around the pylons at the back of me over the last 4 days.
Bury . The pheasant pair , who visit several times a day , to feed , drink and rest , came at their usual time this morning . Upon their departure we discovered that she had laid an egg by the kitchen door ! Does anyone have an explanation for this ?
Bury . One clutch of four , male bullfinch . Male great spotted on the peanuts , presumably ( hope ! ) for chicks . He normally takes the fat balls . After a break of two or three weeks , the blackcap and willow warbler have started to sing again . Does this mean a second clutch ?
The female great spotted woodpecker was back in my flixton garden this evening after a bit of an absence, obviously been busy breeding as she had a juvenile with her which she was feeding fat balls too, lovely to see.
Odd coincidence (see my last garden sighting belwo) but a Little Egret flew NE over my son’s house in central Astley at just after 9pm this evening (not seen by me).
Bury . Right now , delightful , most interesting and very lovely to see bullfinch and goldfinch taking forget-me-knot seeds , despite feeders of sunflower hearts . Not seen previously . The colour contrasts are beautiful . Last week it was bullfinch taking dandy-loin seeds , from the clocks . Great joy !
Bury . Chiffchaff , blackcap calling . redpoll , bullfinch , nuthatch , goldfinch , tits , brief visit of siskin and great spotted woodpecker on feeders . Songthrush , from the treetop , singing his serenade . Occasional sparrowhawk and house sparrow .
Not quite as exciting as the the last 2 posts! An Oystercatcher flew south over my Tyldesley garden this afternoon and a family party of Long tailed tits moved through the maturing shrubs.
Early this morning there was 3 Goldfinch including 1 recently fledged on the feeders, later there was a family group of 5 Goldfinch above my Stretford backyard feeders on the telephone wires (2 adults, feeding 3 newly fledged young) and at 12:30pm a single young Goldfinch on a feeder. There's also been 2 very "tatty" blue tit coming and going picking insects from my little plum tree and a neighbour's pear tree, taking them in the direction of a property with a hole in the brickwork near the roof used in previous years.
Bury . After more than two weeks of listening , i actually watched the blackcap singing just now . Joy ! Very cunning and secretive pair of jays skulking around .
A lovely treat just over 10 minutes ago as 2 great white egrets flew directly over my flixton garden, knew i didn't have enough time to get my camera so just watched as they went over in a north north easterly direction.
A swallow circled over my flixton garden this morning a few times nice & low then came & landed on the telephone wires for a little while. 4 mallards then came flying over low & noisy, 3 males harrasing a female. 5 swifts over also.
Stretford backyard feeders - I saw my first young Goldfinch sat on the feeders looking totally puzzled as what to do and when it flew to the phone wires above , it didn't beg for any food and was not approached by the seven other Goldfinch so I wonder if it had fledged earlier in the week.
5 Buzzards together over my Astley garden just now being mobbed by 2 Ravens.
Blackcap and Chiffchaff still singing from the land just behind the garden.
2 Swifts feeding over the house and a single Swallow.

Bury . The tawny , whose photograph i included on Tuesday , flew low over the garden last evening . Have not heard the chiffchaff for some days . Blackcap singing from various locations . Not seen the sparrowhawk , who is normally a frequent visitor , for more than a week .
Yesterday afternoon the resident Tawny , who i have seen only on a very few occasions , eyed me from the ivy . Hurrah ! He was very bold . I do hope they have chicks in the nest box .
Yesterday in my Astley garden, male Whitethroat back on territory, singing Blackcap and Chiffchaff, a single redpoll over north and a loitering male Linnet.
