I have spoken to Ian Harper at UU about the Twite situation at Light Hazzles, today. Apparently, despite feeding, the Twite just weren't there this winter. Feeding had to stop because the seed was rotting, which in itself can carry disease. They also weren't at Cant Clough in Lancashire, which interchanges a lot of colour-ringed birds with Light Hazzles, but a flock has recently appeared there. Interestingly, Peter Golborn reported a flock of 60 Twite in field 7, Barton Moss, with 88 Linnet, on 7th February (I've only just received the location for this record, hence the delay), so maybe these are our missing birds. If anyone else sees these, do look for coloured leg ring combinations. There was also one Twite in field 60 on Chat Moss.
