Post for yesterday 13th June.

The juvenile peregrines have fledged, probably sometime in the week, but only one seen around with both adults.

Peregrine was circling round the town hall spire at about 08:00 this morning in the sun.
A colleague showed me an excellent picture of the pair mating on the town hall spire, taken on Wednesday apparently, by her friend.

Just seen a Peregrine attacking/chasing a pigeon above the canal in Ancoats, over Redhill Street (20mins ago). It was making a lot of noise as it chased the bird. It 'swiped' at and hit the pigeon but couldn't hold on with its talon and the pigeon escaped. Only about 15-20ft high - an incredible sight!

1 Peregrine flew out from Town Hall tower south-west turned 180 and then headed towards the direction of the Arndale at c1150.
Some time later a possible Peregrine was sat on top of the tall Premier Inn across the Irwell from the Cathedral.

Yesterday afternoon.

Both male & female on view & noticed these are both new birds.
Male has red Darvic VR, this bird had been sighted at audenshaw reservoir for some time in 2018/2019 as juvenile. not a great photo attached of it now.
female unringed.
still no confirmed sightings of the resident female since last august, the worst is now feared.
we need a new resident pair so I hope they are here to stay, but I said that about the last pair & they have gone hmm

2 Peregrines on the Town Hall Clock Tower at around 11:30 this morning. Seemed as if the Tiercel was perched above the Falcon, whereas I'm used to seeing the Falcon perched higher than the Tiercel at some sites that I watch in London.

male & female on the town hall from 3pm this afternoon.
when I first seen the pair on the town hall back in june, the female then had a metal ring on the left leg, todays female has a metal ring on the right leg, so clearly a different female. now the resident female has a metal ring on the right leg but I don't think this is the resident female as something is just not right about it ! I could be wrong but if it is the resident female then she looks to have bonded with this new male. whilst watching them they were very noisy on a couple of occasions & also watched them both tuck into some food from there larder.

I was checking both sides of the Faraday Tower this afternoon, when I saw a bird flying towards the Maths & Social Sciences Tower. I walked over to Altrincham St, as I was heading to Piccadilly station and from there I could see a male perched up on the top of the tower. As I got my camera ready, it flew off and passed overhead, heading towards Piccadilly (Gardens).

Adult male seen on 3 occasions this morning, perched on town hall at 10.45, soon flew off then returned with a pigeon ( still alive ) & landed on the principal 15 minutes later where he then plucked & ate. At 12.15 he was then perched on faraday tower with a full crop.
No signs of any other peregrines on a mooch around.

One peregrine sat on faraday tower at 3.20pm as I drove past on the mancunian way, not there when going back past an hour later.
Just like Adrian I also haven't seen the resident female since my post on 30th August despite a few visits since.

I saw a Peregrine flying around the CIS on Sunday but had no optics with me and could not investigate closely. I visited today and saw a male and female perched on the CIS in very close proximity to each other. I was hoping I would find the old female but alas she was not there. I have not seen her since August.

2 images attached. First image is of the male with its feathers puffed out. The second image showing the female on the left and the male on the right with its feathers tight to the body.

Adult male flew in & perched on the town hall at 3.05pm then shortly after adult female sat on cis tower, as luck would have it she then lifted her right leg so that tells me it's not the resident female. No others seen on a little mooch around & didn't manage to check faraday tower.

After a very sparse summer, there's two this morning on the Faraday tower, but in the light quality and without any optics all I can say is one is larger and the other much smaller.

Three Peregrines seen together this afternoon - two were perched up on the Town Hall Clock Tower while a third soared around close by.  There was much calling before one of the perched birds took off to engage with the third in mid-air.

Two birds have been perched together on the Clock Tower for much of the afternoon.

3 peregrines on view this evening, whilst watching the female perched on the town hall the male ( her mate ) flew in & perched up for a couple of minutes before flying off.
Shortly after the resident female was perched up in one of her usual favourite spots, think she may of been waving to me at one point smile

A Peregrine has been loafing on Town Hall pretty much daily for some time now - I haven't seen a pair together for a while.

But great sights and sounds tonight at 5:30pm, when the Peregrine was mobbed very aggressively by a Lesser Black-backed Gull - much posturing and screaming coming from both birds.  Eventually, the Peregrine took off and flew in the direction of Central Convention Complex, pursued by a squadron of at least half-a-dozen gulls.

Hi Steve, when I saw your pictures I thought it was probably the same bird, that white throat was gleaming in the sun last evening

Simon, that most likely is the male of the recent pair that are hanging around the town hall. He was there on over the weekend when I was there but no sign of the female.
Also on sunday 28th I eventually got a sighting of the resident female, nice to see her as it's been well over 2 months since I last seen her despite many many visits. She was looking at little tatty probably due to the wet weather but she was hobbling a little whilst perched up preening. Adrian dancy did see what he thought was her a couple of weeks ago but couldn't fully confirm it was her, but most likely was due to the location it was in.

1 adult on the Town Hall this evening at about 18.15. Seen from the bus stop by Costa on Princess Street, looked relatively small, it had a very white looking throat and upper chest, was calling in a slightly desultory way, which is how I noticed it was there.

Been very little activity on the Faraday tower this year, but one was present this morning for a short while. I think male from the size but hard to be sure.

Photo attached of the pair of peregrine falcons that are currently residing in the city centre. From many of my photos I have taken of these birds I have reason to believe that this pair maybe the faraday tower peregrines that have overwintered there for the last 2 winters.
There is still no signs of the resident female, for me anyway, I have still not seen her since the beginning of may. She may of gone off wandering somewhere hopefully to find a new mate as the resident male was found dead back in April. If she doesn't return then maybe the current pair will become more resident.

Photo attached of one off the new peregrines that was around the town hall on monday, definitely not the resident female as this bird is much whiter on chest & belly & overall bluer.
Haven't actually seen the resident female since early may !

I haven't seen very much of the Peregrines this summer, so it's been great to see and hear two of them noisily occupying the Town Hall clock tower regularly over the last couple of days.

Indeed, I saw one at the traditional nest site early this afternoon (20th June) but I do not know the sex or identity of the bird.

the 2nd calendar year peregrine was a nice looking bird.

Adrian, I later found the resident female peregrine perched on the letter D of the arndale but on the east facing side viewed from market street.

A male Kestrel was seen earlier using the town hall as a base for a bit of urban hunting.

The resident female was on view this afternoon keeping out of the sun with a full crop, I sat & watched her for over an hour & in that time another peregrine flew over & headed in the direction of piccadilly gardens. Just of note the resident male has not been seen by myself for some time now so it looks like she is on her own at the moment.
Adrian dancy joined me later this afternoon & whilst we were talking a chap sat near us & decided to get his drone out ( not a great idea) Mr dancy had a few words with the chap & I think he did walk away with maybe a little dignity hmm
