White Winged Black Tern still present at near Dusk ,so should be there in the morning hopefully :) Also 30 Meadow Pipit flew NE AT 18.30 Picture below

White-winged Black Tern still present 6pm, showing well. It seems to be visiting another water somewhere as it wasnt present in a brief visit yesterday morning and Phil had it fly off north-west around 6.30pm.

Turn off the B6402 onto Old Kiln Lane, which then becomes High Rid Lane. There are several parking places alongside this track (were it widens out) which can be quite bumpy in a couple of spots. There is a footpath (fairly obvious and is quite muddy along the lane where the path is) off to through the fields just east of the reservoir itself which takes you to it or otherwise you can park by the small yacht club in the south west corner of the reservoir and access there. The reservoir itself is open access and the bird is active around the entire water but does occasionally like to rest on the small orange buoy just off the eastern side.

Wheres the best parking spot for high rid? And best public access cheers john I fancy a oook after work and dont want to travell 25 miles if you can't get in .

This afternoon. A circuit of the Reservoir up to 3.10
Fine drizzle soon cleared up, but mist remained low on the hillside.
As I alighted from the vehicle, a Kestrel flew into a nearby tree and devoured it's prey for some minutes.

A flock of Fieldfare and a flock of Canada Geese were seen crossing the hillside in partial mist.

Joe, shame you missed them all 4 Glossy Ibis were feeding in a field at the top north east of the res at 13.00,they were within 5m of a public footpath so it,s not surprising they were disturbed.Another lifer for me biggrin

Despite spending a good 2hrs up there this afternoon there was no sign of the Ibis. Apparently an hour before I got there they'd taken off, but despite searching the fields round High Rid, the original fields up towards the pub and also the fields visible from Old Kiln Road I couldn't locate them. Its very possible they're still in the locality though, a lot of the fields are hard to scan effectively from the viewpoints mentioned above so its not improbable that I just couldn't see them.

The 4 Glossy Ibis were showing down to approx 5/6 yards, which was great especially for my 8 year old son, Joshua, as he did need his bins..As we were walking around the reservoir the Glossy Ibis took flight and settled in the ploughed field at the far right hand corner of the reservoir..
The reservoir produced..

Kestral x 1
Jays
Magpies
Tufted Ducks
Numerous Little Grebes
Great Crested Grebes
Cormorant
Carrion Crow
Numerous Robins on walk back to car......

About 4 little grebes on the reservoir as well as tufted duck,mallard,coot and one greylag and three domesticated
geese.A small flock of lapwing and several meadow pipits near the water.Oh yes! the four ibises as well as earlier stated.
About 12 45 to 1 45.

If the birds remain on the fields next to the reservoir, the best place to park is on Old Hall Lane, off Old Kiln Lane. OHL is at bottom of OKL whereas the pub is at the top.

I should have thought on Old Kiln Lane itself, given the most recent whereabouts of these visitors.

It's a pretty wide country road with no restrictions, so you won't have a problem.

(That said, pub car park has other attractions too!)

10.30a.m. to 11.30a.m.

Four Ibis seen, one in first field near reservoir path, three showing very close in field past 'pump house'.
Watched them for nearly an hour until the heavens opened. Got soaking wet but it was worth it.
