Undoubtedly same bunch (which I counted at between 125/130) over Compstall at 2.12pm. These were followed by another lot of c90 when I reached Werneth Low at 2.40pm. First flock were going E/NE, and the second E/SE.
Saw this flock flying towards Compstall at around 2.05pm from Chadkirk.
200 (ish) viewed from the Peat Pools but much further north in the county heading east at 2:10pm were certainly the same Phil Rhodes had over Four Lane Ends (although his count of 180 is undoubtably more accurate) at the same time.
About 100 west over Bamfurlong/Wigan Flashes at 11:30, but did't get a good view, so maye someody else has a more accurate count
I counted 76 Dave... Also about 300 SE over Horrock's/Ince at about 11:00 and about 10 minutes ago 400ish (didnt get a good view of them) SE over Ashton-in-Makerfield

355 over Crab Tree Lane in Atherton at 07:10am - heading SE 150 over Asda in Leigh at 07:25am - heading S 170 over East Lancs road at 07:35am - heading SW.
130 east over Ashton-in-Makerfield about 08:20 this morning
85 NW over Platt Bridge 10:40 yesterday (Wed 5th Nov)
Beat me to it with the Ashton lot. 10mins later or so there was a distant party heading in what would be a N/NE direction over Golborne by my reckoning. Very distant so only an estimate of 80-100 birds. Perhaps someone at Pennington picked them up.

The low cloud was turning these back on sunday, the view from the flat looks right over manchester and the skiens were well clear of airport/barton when they shifted direction
Yes it was you! Thanks - I thought you lived in Irlam. Another cause for Pinkfeet changing direction could be aircraft, which are particularly low-flying at Barton, near you - particularly the very noisy police helicopters which operate out of there! But the dark cloud over the Pennines which was particularly noticeable at the weekend is a very likely cause for them to turn back.

Hi Judith, If its me you are asking the question of I appologise for omitting my location. I was viewing from my garden in Irlam, the birds were quite high and the formation began to break up over trafford park I guess( very approximate). Sids explanation seems quite plausible to me but there could be other theories and I would be glad to hear them. regards Mike
