early morning dog walk managed to beat the bad weather that came in laterbiggrin
pair stonechat, 16 very noisy canada geese over,2 meadow pipit, 4 reed bunting, 3 chaffinch in with a small goldfinch flock, great tit, blackbird, blue tit, dunnock, at least 8 robin, magpie, carrion crow, wood pigeon,
diggle flash- @06-35 a 1st winter iceland gull spent 5mins circling low over the water before flying off in a north easterly direction ( possibly came from the pennington gull roost), 7 black headed gull. 2 lesser black backed gull, 5 gadwall, 2 mallard, c30 tufted duck, c20 coot, 1 mute swan, 5 little grebe seen on main flash with 1 more heard on stock pond, 1 cormorant over, 2 moorhen,

Brilliant views of a Goldcrest, literally down to 3 foot it didn't seem bothered at all, flitting about tirelessly.
12 Long Tailed Tits
Had a nice mixed flock of Finches in around C11, Redpoll, Siskin, Goldfinch and Chaffinch.

Plus all usuals.

early morning walk in darkness but still plenty of singing birds 2 mistle thrush singing loudly from 06-10, plenty of robin and blackbird singing but these tended to be close to the road with street lights. canada geese heard but not seen. at least 4 little grebe calling,

C170 pink footed geese over SE followed 10mins later by 6 stragglers, also heard a skein but couldn't see them but Gordon saw a skein of 50 @ the southern end of the site at approx the same time so probably same birds,

diggle flash- c 80 black headed gull, 3 common gull, 3 lesser black backed gull and 1 herring gull i presume an overnight roost as it was just coming light as i walked round and even before i had walked all round the flash most of the gulls had moved on, 3 gadwall, 1m pochard, 4 mallard, 1 great crested grebe, 2 little grebe, 3 mute swan the 2 residents on the main flash with another adult on the stock pond all 3 present yesterday as well, c60 coot, c40 tufted duck,2 moorhen,

a nice mixed flock yesterday with 2 greenfinch, 5 redpoll and 6 siskin feeding on alders with goldfinch and great tits,

my estimation might be a bit high but I reckon on 5 to 7000 Starling in tonights roost, which is by far the largest roost I have seen here. they flew in from all directions, 3/4 roosted in central ditch and the rest in Nevisons.

diggle flash- when i first walked round about 8am a single drake scaup was showing well but i couldn't relocate it when i walked back about 9-30ish, c40 tufted duck, c40 coot, 2 mute swan, 1 little grebe, 3 mallard, 4 gadwall, 6 black headed gull, 2 moorhen,

diggle flash- 64 tufted duck, 52 coot, 9 gadwall, 6 mallard, 8 black headed gull, 3 moorhen, 1 great crested grebe, 1 little grebe, 2 adult mute swan no sign of the cygnet thats been on the stock pond the past couple of days,
several goldfinch flocks of 17, 7, 5 and 2 x 3s, 8 long tailed tit, 1 chaffinch, blackbird, robin,wren, dunnock, 1 reed bunting, magpie,carrion crow, wood pigeon,
5 meadow pipit in C7 where the promised cattle have finally been moved in although not the longhorns they originally said we would be getting i think these are a highland cattle breed black wooly cattle i saw 12 closely grouped together.

c60 long tailed tit in various flocks around walk biggest flock 20+ smallest 8, 16 goldfinch, 3 reed bunting, 3 meadow pipit, 1 common gull on new water, blackbird,great tit,blue tit, dunnock,wren,robin, 2 chaffinch, 1m bullfinch, 3 jay, 1 grey heron over, 32 jackdaw over NW @ 11-30 ish 1 jackdaw SE about 10 mins later, magpie,carrion crow, wood pigeon, 5 black headed and 3 lesser black backed gulls over,
diggle flash- c80 tufted duck C10 floods were frozen so some probably moved from there as i saw nothing at all on floods, c50 coot, 14 gadwall, 2m pochard, 2 great crested grebe, 2 little grebe seen 2 more heard only, 6 mallard, 2 moorhen, 17 black headed gull, 3 mute swan 2 residents on main flash 1 cygnet on stock pond talking to one gentleman who seems to think it may be the cygnet from the resident pair we had both heard stories the cygnet had died but this gentleman also heard it had been taken by the rspa unwell and thinks it may have been nursed back to health and returned ?
