like Gordon i heard my first cuckoo of the year at about 9-25 i was walking around Diggle flash and would guess the cuckoo to be in the trees just beyond in C8, i just checked the records and Gordon heard our first cuckoo over here last year on April 20th so we are 5 days earlier this time, another year first for me was a single common tern swooping low over Diggle flash. 3 chiffchaff, 2 willow warbler, 4 chaffinch, 3 goldfinch plus numerous great and blue tits, robin, wren and blackbird all seen and heard singing or calling. The 2 resident Mute Swan have returned, i saw the male yesterday morning and could read his Darvic ring, the female was also visible in the afternoon and both were present this morning. 8 meadow pipit C8, 3 skylark C8, 1 skylark C9.

watched 2 Magpie trying to dislodge a Carion Crow from the edge of its nest by pulling at the crows tail forcing the crow to loose its ballance, at which point a second crow flew to, and landed in the nest to protect which I presume contained eggs. the Magpie's then flew off.
